Hawaii Pet Expo

This year’s 21st annual Hawaii Pet Expo was held on May 8th and 9th at the Neal Blaisdell Exhibition Hall here in Honolulu.  It’s Hawaii’s premiere pet event sponsored by the Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association (HVMA) and features products and service booths as well as displays, lectures, cool demonstrations, and lots and lots of doggies walking around on leashes or being rolled around in strollers while their parents shop.

This was the first time that we attended the Pet Expo so it was very special for the both of us (unfortunately mommy had to work).  As we stood in line to enter the exhibition hall, Penny could hardly contain her excitement.  She’d never seen so many people and dogs gathered in one place before so I’m sure she didn’t really know quite what to make of all the commotion.

The exhibition hall is large and was filled with booths offering everything from pet strollers and grooming tips…to doggie popsicles.  They even gave everyone who entered, plastic bags in case of accidental doggie  “poop-age”.  Penny is pretty good about holding it while we are out in public so fortunately we didn’t have to worry about that too much.

It was a good thing that we went early.  It wasn’t that crowded and I was able to let Penny walk around on her leash without having to worry about her getting trampled under-foot.  She even seemed to be having a lot of fun looking at all of the different booths and taking in all of the sights.

One of our favorite booths was “Inu Inu”, a local asian inspired doggie clothing and accessory company that makes really cute Japanese style kimono and yukata for dogs.  The designs are really bright and colorful, and the prices are very reasonable (especially compared to mail order companies in Japan or the mainland).  We will definitely be getting something for Penny to wear for New Year’s or Girl’s Day (March 3rd).

You can check out all of their cute designs at their website:     http://www.inuinuhawaii.com/

After walking around for about an hour, we both were exhausted and ready to call it a day.  We had a lot of fun, made a bunch of new doggie friends, and are definitely looking forward to next year’s Hawaii Pet Expo.
